Thousands still without power in Ontario after severe storms
About 900 hydro workers are trying to restore power to thousands of Ontarians still in the dark after a destructive thunderstorm.
A severe weather system through southwest and southern Ontario has knocked out power to almost 50,000 Hydro One customers.
The utility company said “significant lightning” had resulted in power outages to its distribution system. There were multiple power outages, Toronto Hydro said, and the Veld Music Festival was cancelled.
Environment Canada has Toronto under a severe thunderstorm warning for Sunday evening, saying some extreme weather is on its way to the city.

Meteorologist Tony Cham says there were some reports of the roofs of some homes getting caved in by falling trees in the Wingham-area.
There were four reports of possible tornado sightings during the storm, but those have yet to be confirmed by Environment Canada.
Heavy rain, high winds and even hail was reported across Toronto, the GTA and parts of southern Ontario tonight as a powerful summer storm hit the region.
The national weather agency says it will likely send investigators to the area on Monday to survey the damage.
