Sherlock stars happy to carry on, says writer Moffat
Although fans will have to wait a while longer for Season 4, the Sherlock gods have smiled down upon us and will present a Victorian-era special hopefully later this year.
Details on the special has been scarce, but showrunner Steven Moffat gave fans a bit more to go on at the Television Critics Association’s press tour event in Beverly Hills on Saturday. But Benedict Cumberbatch’s Sherlock won’t be the only one with a slightly different personality this time round, as Moffat continued: “Dr Watson is a bit more upright”. There will once again be three episodes, and for the most part they will revolve around our two leading men. We never bothered explaining why he’s in modern day London. “Transferring it back to its original era we realised the women don’t speak”, Moffat said of the original material. Nothing is inconceivable if you have no taste. [Co-creator Mark Gatiss] and me, we wanted to do this, but it had to be a special, it had to be separate entity on its own.
Last month, BBC One released the first look of the Christmas special segment for its wildly popular TV series “Sherlock“.
“We go back to doing the show normally next year, unless I’m lying or we change our minds”.
Moffat also stated that although it’s quite confounding to see that the set was transformed into a Victorian Era, they didn’t find the need to justify it to the viewers. “Because we take so long to make the show, we’re going to have to set it in the next century”. They are basically the same people but are portrayed living in another different “time and society”, Moffat continued.
(FYI: Watson will be “more uptight” than ever in the new time period.).
“By the end, Martin was ready to go back to the more acerbic version, but I think Benedict really enjoyed being Victorian Holmes”.
“Next one is going to be set in (a) starship”, Moffat said. Moffat says that they haven’t done enough scary chillers with the modern Sherlock Holmes and doing a Victorian episode will be an appropriate setting for that. “There must be something more important to do”. “They will be in production this spring, and will air some time-ish in the future”.
While the Sherlock Christmas special might not be actually a “Christmas” special after all, it is still rumored to be aired in the UK probably sometime around Christmastime.
