Israeli team flees as Sofia fans invade pitch seeking revenge for bad
There was certainly nothing friendly about this pre-season match. You have absolutely NO idea what’s going to happen.
There were incredible scenes during a “friendly” match between Bulgaria’s CSKA Sofia and Israel’s Ashdod on Sunday. Then the flying bottles came his way, and eventually the fans stormed the pitch and scared off the visiting team.
Soccer fans in Bulgaria attacked Israeli players and coaches during an exhibition match in Sofia.
The incident occurred in the first minute of stoppage time with Ashdod leading 1-0.
CSKA players seemed to be trying to get the fans to stop, but the Ashdod players ran across the field to try and evade the mad mob.
Tension quickly boiled over when an Ashdod player appeared to target one of the home side’s attackers in a vicious challenge that earned him a sending off. At the time two Israeli players had been handed the red cards over foul play.
“It was really scary”, said Ashdod’s Roei Dayan. “After we returned to the hotel we watched the videos on YouTube and realized how mad it was”.
