Annual Texas Sales Tax Holiday weekend begins Friday
Whether its supplies or back to school clothes, a few families said they’ve already made sure to get their shopping out of the way to avoid the crowds next weekend.
The holiday weekend, set by the Texas Legislature, allows consumers to purchase clothing, school supplies, and other items without having to pay the state sales tax.
The tax break begins on Friday, August 7th at 12:01 in the morning and ends on Sunday, August 9th at 11:59 at night. Texas Comptroller, Glenn Hegar advises that this year, shoppers will save an estimated 87-million-dollars in state and local sales taxes during the sales tax holiday; which has been an annual event since 1999.

“Time is of the essence, and we’ve got to do it when we can do it”, she said. Lay-away plans can also be used again this year to take advantage of the sales tax holiday. Sales tax savings are also available on items like laptop computers, printers and computer accessories.
“There is no limit to how much you can spend”, said Gary Gudmundson, Ohio Department of Taxation communications director.
