Mexico prosecutor: Video has suspects in journalist killing
According to the magazine, she was a social activist who had worked with Mr Espinosa in Veracruz.
The city prosecutor’s office said it was waiting on tests to confirm reports that the victims were tortured and that some of the women may have been sexually assaulted.
Local media said the 29-year-old may have been Colombian.
They all had bullet wounds to the head.
Rios gave their women’s ages as 18, 29, 32 and 40. “All lines of investigation are open”, he said in response to a question about Espinosa’s early June statements that he felt threatened by Duarte, a member of the Institutional Revolutionary Party (PRI) of President Enrique Pena Nieto.
Mr Espinosa was killed along with four women, believed to be his three flatmates and a housekeeper, at his apartment in the capital on Friday. The building was in range of several security cameras on the street and Rios said officials have video evidence in the crime. Absolutely none. Espinosa had fled to Mexico City from his home state of Veracruz because of previous threats stemming from his work.
Both Espinosa and Vera had been working in the southern state of Veracruz, which has seen increasingly deadly violence against journalists and activists. Two more, including Espinosa, have been killed outside the state and three have gone missing.
The incident left the 31-year-old photographer “very concerned” because he had left Xalapa, the capital of Veracruz, because he was being harassed and feared for his life, the Cuartoscuro director said. He and four others were found dead last week in Mexico City. The comment led to shouts and protests from reporters.
Espinosa told the unidentified man that he was, prompting the stranger to reply that “you should know that we’re here”, Valtierra said.
