Minnesota Mom Drives Drunk With Daughter, 8, Clinging to vehicle
A Minnesota mother is facing criminal charges after witnesses say she drove away with her 8-year-old daughter hanging onto the outside of her vehicle. The 8-year-old eventually jumped down and fell but not before her mom was already driving down the street, a police report read. The police saw the girl had a bruised foot, which occurred when she fell from the truck, and also corroborates what the neighbor said happened.
Cops said when they stopped Giancherio she was nearly four times over the legal drinking limit – and that she was on her way to a liquor store to get even more alcohol.
Heller told KARE he ran to get his mom, Corrine Reilly, who dialed 911.
“I came outside checked on her and I told this little girl, hey, I have to call the cops, she endangered your life”, said Reilly.
When her daughter pleaded for her not to back out of the driveway, she shifted the family auto into reverse, said cops.
Heller said the girl was standing on the driver’s side running board, banging on the auto window, holding on to the door handle and yelling at her mother to stop.
Court records show the mother had a blood alcohol level almost four times the legal limit when she sped off on Monday. “Hopefully she gets the help she needs and can be a better parent out of this”.
When officers arrived, the girl told them that she was trying to get into the vehicle with her mom, but all the doors were locked.
Heller’s mom would later learn from Farmington police that Giancherio drove to the liquor store.
Authorities believe that she was trying to stop Giancherio from driving drunk.
Cops said when they stopped Giancherio, she initially denied her daughter fell from the vehicle.
The Pioneer Press stories Rena Mae Giancherio is due in Dakota County courtroom August. 18 on third-degree driving whereas impaired and youngster endangerment expenses in connection to the Monday incident.
Giancherio refused to speak to KARE reporters who showed up at her home Friday evening.
