Players’ union, league seek quick resolution to Brady case
The crowd of 10,108 went wild. Dominique Easley, the New England Patriots’ 2014 first-round draft choice who had his rookie season cut short in December because of a knee injury, was placed on the active/physically unable to perform list Monday.
As if the aerial trolling wasn’t enough for fans trying to weather the storm, quarterback Tom Brady’s appeal of a four-game suspension was denied earlier this week by NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell; Brady fired back and is suing the league with the NFLPA.
But at ground level, Brady looked sharp in his first football action since the Patriots beat the Seahawks in February for the franchise’s – and his – fourth NFL title. By contrast, the judge could conclude that Brady didn’t cheat, yet still uphold the suspension because the process was fair. “I’m going to tell you, no”, he said. (The Patriots do not allow media to report on formations or trick plays.). He says what stood out to him is that it appears both sides are on the same page, at least in the filing.
McDaniels said he hasn’t spoken to Garoppolo about his playing status, saying, “We have so many things to do right now in terms of just building a foundation for this year”.
“We are all going to have to perform in 2015”. And anything in the future beyond the day’s practice isn’t in his control, either. That’s all I’m thinking about. I certainly know I’ve been fully entertained with the Patriots involvement in Deflategate.
At practice on Thursday, Brady took all the first-team reps. He even had a one-handed touchdown catch on a pass from Julian Edelman, according to a video posted online by a member of the public.
As reported by the NFL, Brady ordered the destruction of the cell phone soon after his initial March 6, 2015 meeting with league investigators. Patriots players wore shorts, Tshirts and helmets – but no numbers.
“To suggest that I destroyed a phone to avoid giving the NFL information it requested is completely wrong”, Brady said in his statement.
And just for today, the Patriots’ quarterbacks equally split the reps, with Brady taking the lead role.
Berman, appointed to the federal bench by President Bill Clinton, received the case after the NFL Players Association’s failed attempt to make their argument in Minnesota, where the union received a favorable ruling in the Adrian Peterson suspension litigation.
The NFL season is still more than a month off, but fans are buzzing everywhere as training camps begin across the league.
