Ackley goes to Yankees in deal with Mariners
There were some rumors surrounding the Yankees possibly looking to bring back Martin Prado, but the trade for Ackley will likely end any of that talk. “I’m doubling down on what we’ve got”.
“Not close”, he said. The offensive is going to improve with Ackley’s presence in the lineup.
Baseball America ranked the right-hander as the Yankees’ best prospect and 35th overall to start the season.
The Mariners traded Ackley, the No. 2 pick in the 2009 draft, to the New York Yankees for two minor-league players: outfielder Ramon Flores and right-handed pitcher Jose Ramirez. It’s kind of a big surprise, but I guess this is part of it. You see this all the time with guys.
“There’s risk in throwing some of the young guys in the Atlantic Ocean and saying, “Time to swim, ‘” Cashman said”. He is also expected to be available at some point in the weekend series against the Twins.
Right-handers Bryan Mitchell and Diego Moreno are prime examples. While neither figure is awful, the Yankees are smart to bolster the rotation by calling up Severino for the stretch run. General Manager, Brian Cashman, just protects his quartet of prospects like they’re the next coming of the Core Four. That’s why Cashman took such a hard stance against trading him or any of his other minor-league jewels. “I really liked his approach. At the same time, we’re also simultaneously excited about what the present roster is doing”. Listen, you don’t get anything for making the phone calls. If you would like to discuss another topic, look for a relevant article. Cashman was absolutely correct not to give up on prospects such as Aaron Judge right now, and Severino who can both make an impact this season for the Yankees.
“Only if we needed it, and only if he earned it”, Cashman said. It’s just one of those things where you hope he can fit in with the club, and I think he will. He’s super quiet.
The Yankees will be a playoff team now and they will be a tough team to play when the postseason arrives. There were rumblings that they would trade for Craig Kimbrel or Aroldis Chapman, or maybe swing a deal for a starter like Mike Leake.
In 32 games, 21 starts, at Triple-A, Ramirez has a 2.90 ERA with 56 strikeouts and 23 walks in 49 2/3 innings.
“He’s thrown very well this year at the Double-A and Triple-A level”, Girardi said. He didn’t allow a run in 13 of his last 14 appearances. And what I saw in spring training… there was no fear there. “It’s pretty insane. I’m going to miss everyone here, that’s for sure”.
The long-anticipated trade deadline has come and gone.
The good news is Ackley owns a more enticing.296/.397/.481 slash line in 63 plate appearances at Yankee Stadium. “So we’ll see what the next step for this youngster is”. Well, we’ve done the waiting. “Try to help us any way I can”.
