Aaron Kromer rejoins Bills for training camp
The takeaway from Bills offensive line coach Aaron Kromer’s minute-long statement Monday evening in his first appearance at camp: no apologies, no remorse.
The Bills have announced that Kromer will be suspended for the first six games of the season without pay.
Kromer was under investigation by the Bills, as the team looked into his arrest for allegedly punching a teenage boy in the face last month for using his beach chairs. He pleaded not guilty, and, according to Syracuse.com, the alleged victims’ parents wrote letters to the state attorney asking that charges be dropped after the sides reached an “amicable resolution”.
Still, the statement issued Sunday night was as general as it could have been, and Ryan punted in both directions when addressing the situation before Kromer on Monday.
“Over the past several weeks the Bills organization has gathered information regarding the incident involving Offensive Line Coach Aaron Kromer”.
Kromer’s name made headlines last season when, as offensive coordinator of the Chicago Bears, he made “anonymous” comments criticizing quarterback Jay Cutler for which he ultimately had to issue a tearful apology. His suspension will begin September 7, in the week leading up to the Bills’ regular season-opener against Indianapolis. Kromer, however, will rejoin the team at training camp.
“After the day off we’ll probably start having a period or two where it is specifically based on an opponent and things like that”, said Ryan with respect to the offensive play calls.
Kromer was hired in January as part of a new staff assembled by Ryan, who took over after Doug Marrone stepped down abruptly on December 31.
