Netflix to make Asian debut in Japan next month
So far it hasn’t been revealed how much subscribers in Japan will have to pay in order to access the service, but Netflix has confirmed that the streaming service will be live in Japan on September 2nd.
Netflix, the on-demand streaming service provider has announced to expand its services to Japan starting this September. There’s no doubt that Netflix will host a lot of content that appeals to the local audience in Japan aside from the usual slew of movies, TV shows and documentaries.
“With its rich culture and celebrated creative traditions, Japan is a critical component of our plan to connect people around the world to stories they love”, Netflix CEO Reed Hastings said in February, when the initial plans were disclosed. With the addition of Japan, Netflix will now be available in 51 countries.
It’s already been a huge year for Netflix, and it’s only going to continue to get bigger.
Other upcoming country launches include Italy, Portugal, Spain and Iceland, which are expected in the next couple of months, with the Czech Republic to follow in 2016. Last year, it sold the unit to Nippon Television Network Corp. for an undisclosed amount as Hulu refocused on the U.S. market. Given Netflix’s history, we expect nothing but sheer success.
Not only does Netflix’s expansion increase the company’s brand, but it draws in more subscribers, which leads to more revenue.
