Jazz guard Dante Exum leaves exhibition game with non-contact injury
The 20-year-old guard went down during the Boomers’ 66-51 win over Slovenia in Ljubljana on Wednesday morning, their fourth and final tour game. He overtook Trey Burke as the Jazz’s starting point guard last year, playing a key role in their strong second-half offense.
Dante Exum picked up a left knee injury while playing against Slovenia on Tuesday, and he will fly back to Utah in order to be re-evaluated.
The injury happened without contact, and Dante Exum screamed out in pain.
Exum’s left knee buckled as he drove towards the basket, and he collapsed to the floor.
Utah drafted Boston College point guard Olivier Hanlan, but it’s uncertain if he’s going to sign with the team or perhaps play elsewhere as a stash player.
“Now that we have these tragic set of circumstances where Dante Exum looks like he’s done his ACL and will be out, it’s an exceptional set of circumstances and with proper consultation with the team, and if they all support it, I would think that’s appropriate”.
Exum could miss the entire National Basketball Association season if the diagnosis is true, and it also means he will not play against the Tall Blacks in their two-game series starting on August 15. He averaged 4.8 points, 2.4 assists and 1.6 rebounds in his rookie season. “I had that two months working with Jazz guys to do that”.
