Newborn baby with umbilical cord discovered alive on LA sidewalk
A day-old baby boy still connected to his umbilical cord was found abandoned in a stroller in Los Angeles, authorities have revealed.
Father Matz tells Fox 11 that the same good Samaritan who called police at about 1pm, saying he found the baby, was at his church the night before, asking for advice.
“We’d like her to come forward and make sure she’s okay”.
The infant was taken to a local hospital and is in stable condition, according to police.
ABC7 reported that some residents had spotted the stroller at the same location last night, but assumed it was empty and had been discarded.
However, on Tuesday, when he walked by with his two children, he noticed that there was a clean blanket inside the stroller, as Diaz explained to KTLA.
The baby was so young, the umbilical cord was still attached. I thought he was dead.
According to Diaz, the newborn was wearing new pajamas and covered in sweat. Detectives are trying to find his family and want to know who left him on the street. The baby’s stroller was on Dana Street across from the church.
Madison noted that under the county’s “Safe Surrender” law, which was enacted in 2001, a parent or guardian is allowed to surrender an infant that is no more than three days old – without repercussions – as long as the baby shows no sign of abuse.
