London commuters set to be hit by Tube strikes from tonight
He reckons Transport for London’s retired Tube workers, such as drivers, signallers and station staff, should be brought on to a make a “relief staff team” to provide service on the day of the Tube strike.
The action comes after unions rejected an earlier offer from the London Underground authority that did not include appropriate guarantees on the number of rest days for night tube drivers.
An extra 250 buses will be put on the roads, but buses are also expected to be extremely busy.
The RMT blamed Johnson, for creating a “rushed and botched vanity project” that the union claimed London Underground managers knew could not be implemented by 12 September, when all-night tubes at weekends on five London lines are scheduled to start running.

The offer Tube workers have rejected included a 2 per cent salary increase this year, £200 per night a driver works, and a £500 bonus for Night Tube staff when the service is introduced in September. “No-one will be compelled to work more than they want to”, he said.
He said: “I am sorry that the journeys of our customers will once again be disrupted by unnecessary strike action”.
While the dispute has centered so far around pay, as well as working conditions, Mr Cortes said the issue was not about pay but the work/life balance of his members, as well as safety issues with staffing levels on the Night Tube.

The strike starts at 9.30pm but Transport for London (TfL) is advising all passengers to complete their journey by 6.30pm.

There will no underground trains running on Thursday and services will return to normal on Friday.
“We urge the unions to call off the strike, put the new offer to their members and avoid further disruption to Londoners”.
