Authorities: 2 women dead from suspected drug overdoses after collapsing at
The women, ages 18 and 19, were transported to hospitals after being found unresponsive during the festival, the Los Angeles County coroner’s office said, but it was unclear if they were connected to each other.
Two ladies died from what authorities referred to as a suspected drug overdose after collapsing on the in Pomona, California, the Los Angeles Occasions reported. She was pronounced dead at the hospital at 6.04 p.m.
The deaths appeared to be due to drug overdoses but autopsies were planned, coroner’s Lt. Fred Corral told the Los Angeles Times (http://lat.ms/1OIVJsa ).
Ecstasy is a popular drug at such music festivals and can cause the body’s temperature to rise as high as 108 degrees, potentially destroying the person’s organs leading to multi-organ system failure, seizures, coma and death, the Times reported. “People get carried away”, Oscar Mendez, 19, said.
A rep for Hard Summer did not immediately respond to a request for comment.
Just last year, another 19-year-old died from a suspected overdose at the same festival.
About 65,000 people were expected to attend each day of the two-day electronic music festival. The event was held at the Fairplex in Pomona, on land mostly owned by the Los Angeles County government, the Times said.
