South Africa-Bangladesh test rained out for second day
Mirpur:An entire day’s play was lost for the third time in this series as heavy rain, caused by cyclone Komen, forced the umpires to abandon the second day of the Mirpur Test at 12 pm. “I don’t think I have played a series where out of ten days, six days have been rained off”.
The two-Test series has been ruined by rain and, after three consecutive days were washed out, day five was cancelled without a ball being bowled. “This is one of the most freakish Test series I have been involved in”, he said. The play has been called off despite this being the best day possible for cricket.
Bangladesh had reached 246 for eight before the heavens opened, with Dale Steyn passing 400 Test wickets for South Africa in the process.
Mushfiqur Rahim, the Bangladesh captain, applauded his team for putting up a fantastic performance against a No. 1 side like South Africa.
“We saw a lot of rain for the past three days”.
The outcome of the series did not impact the rankings of the two teams but South Africa lost five rating points while Bangladesh gained six.
Bangladesh fans hope Tamim and co will not repeat the same mistakes against Australia, scheduled to play two Tests, from October 9 to 13 in Chittagong and October 17 to 21 in Dhaka. Cricket has been good, but we have hardly played much cricket here.
Fortunately, the weather did not have the final say in the One-Day global series, where Bangladesh defeated both India and South Africa by 2-1 margins to enhance their growing reputation in the shorter formats. Rahim hit 65 off 125 balls, his 15th Test fifty and first in 12 innings as Bangladesh made slow progress before South Africa took control of the game in the final session at the Sher-e-Bangla National Stadium.
