Emmerdale: behind the scenes of the wedding day disaster
The visitors at Pete and Debbie’s wedding ceremony aren’t the one Emmerdale residents whose lives hold within the stability after the dramatic helicopter crash this week.
ITV has defended the decision to broadcast a helicopter crash storyline on Emmerdale despite complaints of its insensitivity from the families of victims of the Glasgow Clutha pub crash.
An online petition, started by support group the Clutha Trust, has now been set up on change.org, appealing for Emmerdale producer Kate Oates to scrap the storyline. “It is completely disrespectful and insensitive to even consider using a similar story line in order to boost ratings for a soap”.
Ms Oates told a press conference last week that she and other soap bosses carefully considered the storyline in light of the Clutha disaster.
With the upcoming events being kept under wraps and very few details being revealed, Michael, who plays bad boy Ross Barton, was grilled by This Morning on what is to come.
Matthew Wolfenden, who plays David in the soap, gives us a sneak peek video insight into the plot in this video spoiler, as he made his way round the village and the key characters involved.
In a statement, an ITV spokesman added: ‘The helicopter crash circumstances are very different to any real life cases that we are aware of.
“It’s going to be a very big disaster and people are going to die…” Chrissie privately does her best to stay calm, but later on learning more evidence regarding Robert, she sees red and douses his auto in petrol as they argue at the scrapyard.
The fire is set to send one of the canisters rocketing in to the sky where it collides with a helicopter that Pete Barton (Anthony Quinlan) has hired to take him and his new bride, Debbie (Charley Webb) on honeymoon.
Those killed in the pub were John McGarrigle, Mark O’Prey, Gary Arthur, Colin Gibson, Robert Jenkins and Samuel McGhee.
