National Hockey League Network merges with MLB Network, moving to Secaucus
Essentially, Major League Baseball Advanced Media (MLBAM) will be taking over operations of the NHL Network, which will now be based out of the MLB Network’s Secaucus, New Jersey headquarters. Also, the Major League Baseball is definitely happy that they opened the MLBAM back in 2000-it has become a digital cash cow for them in the ever-growing online marketplace.
For me, I’m also looking forward to seeing how MLBAM handles National Hockey League Network, a barren wasteland in which poor Kathryn Tappen and Kevin Weekes stare at Barry Melrose’s suits in-between reruns of Oilers propaganda and WaxVac commercials.
There are concerns about the continuing availability of National Hockey League highlights on YouTube, but we’ll see how that shakes out on Tuesday before we grab our pitchforks and torches. It’s an independent company that was founded to provide an even playing field for baseball content as outlined in an in-depth profile on The Verge.com.
“One of the most important things that any sports league or a commissioner of a sports league can do is make sure that you deliver to your fans your content, your games, in the best possible way”, NHL Commissioner Rob Manfred said in a statement.
On the surface, this new partnership sounds like it will greatly benefit game coverage and hockey off the ice, if you will. Here’s to hoping this six-year arrangement will do wonders for the handsome game we all love and for fans everywhere. Collins said.
MLBAM expects to fully take over by January 2016.
Some of BAM Tech’s new investors will likely be strategic partners that may also want to add some of their assets into the company, Bowman says. The company has partnered with the NHL, NBA, and NFL, as well as more minor organizations such as The Big Ten Network and the Ontario Hockey League.
