Decatur citizens invited to light up the night during National Night Out
The City of Everett’s Office of Neighborhoods and the Everett Police Department invite the public to participate in National Night Out Against Crime, on Tuesday, August 4 to help bring neighbors together to foster stronger, more vibrant communities.
The benefit: “It’s the community becoming involved in crime prevention and supporting the police department, it’s them helping us to improve the quality of their neighborhood and combatting fear”, said York City Police Lt. Gene Fells. This year, almost 38 million people are expected at more than 16,000 community events nationwide.
“I like it because it’s a real police and community involvement event”.
For the first time, Delray Beach will dedicate one night to talk about crime prevention. The event will be at the skatepark at Lionshead Parking Structure from 6 p.m.to 8 p.m.
The Northern York County Regional Police National Night Out Committee is seeking monetary sponsors for the various events.
Through neighborhood policing, the Martinez Police Department has encouraged neighborhoods and homeowners associations to host their own events, Ghisletta said. Events planned include demonstrations by the Lackawanna County SWAT Team, Pennsylvania Ambulance, Dickson City Ambulance and Dickson City Police Department, a screening of Disney film “Big Hero 6” and a bounce house.
Fairey stresses the importance of a partnership between law enforcement and the community.
“Unfortunately, the way some of this stuff is put out there, it makes you think all officers are brutal people who don’t follow the rules, and we really want to try and combat that (image)”, Tuttle said.
