A second OnePlus phone is coming in 2015
That might seem amusing to hear from the head of a company which was founded less than two years ago, and has its core business based on selling phones at cost. “Hopefully for Christmas”, Carl has revealed.
It’s an unexpected announcement, made more unusual by the fact that it comes at a time when you’d expect the company to be heavily promoting the impressive-looking OnePlus 2, which will start shipping on 11 August.
They confirmed that the company is indeed working on a third phone but said, “that this is not going to be the OnePlus 3 nor a OnePlus 2S”.
The OnePlus 2 goes ahead with performance and bridges gap between typical Chinese phones and the premium flagships, taking a leap forward from cheaper Chinese phones perception hitherto to what rich and premium flagship devices can offer today.
“It may or may not be (higher spec’d than the OnePlus 2)”.
The AMA was filled with disappointed fans questioning why the OnePlus 2 lacks NFC, wireless charging and quick charging. I want you to come with me on a journey back to yesteryear.
On the OnePlus site, the OnePlus 2 price for the 3GB RAM/16GB ROM variant is $330 for the US, significantly more for Europe. He added that by the time NFC is widely used, 12 to 18 months from now according to his calculations, people will be on to their next phone.
But that’s not all; the cable is also capable of carrying signals, thus making it possible to connect the device to TV to stream movies.
While Samsung, LG, HTC, and others stress out over profit margins and allow economics to drive their smartphone businesses, Pei says that OnePlus remains focused on the phone itself – not its profits. That’s fine – we’ll work hard to make each iteration better than the last. (The company’s previous handset, the OnePlus One, sold 1.5 million units by comparison.).
