Peter Berg Eyes CBS Films’ Boston Marathon Thriller ‘Patriots’ Day’
Such was the resonating impact of the tragic Boston bombings of 2013, that Hollywood now has a trio of films in the works based on the real-life event. Wahlberg is circling the role of Davis but no deal is yet in place as the actor may have prior scheduling commitments.
Peter Berg looks to probably reunite with his Lone Survivor and Deepwater Horizon star, Mark Wahlberg, for another true story of anguish and hardship: Patriots’ Day. The script comes from Matt Charman, who wrote Steven Spielberg’s upcoming spy thriller Bridge of Spies as well as Michelle Williams romance Suite Française. They are in production on “Deepwater Horizon“, about the BP oil spill and have an action movie titled “Mile 22” in the works.
The movie will follow the five-day search for Dzhokhar Tsarnaev based on the account of Boston Police commissioner Ed Davis, who Wahlberg is in talks to play. Alongside the Jake Gyllenhaal-led Stronger is the slightly troubled Boston Strong – which has since lost Casey Affleck and Daniel Espinosa – and finally, there’s Patriot’s Day.
There’s no shortage of movies in development about the Boston Marathon bombing that happened back in 2013, and one of the several projects in the mix just landed a director.
The film is also in competition now with Lionsgate’s Stronger, a new film from director David Gordon Green (Snow Angels, Pineapple Express) that is based on the non-fiction memoir of marathon bombing survivor Jeff Bauman.
