Shreveport police: Officer shot, killed; manhunt ongoing
Shreveport Mayor Ollie Tyler released the following said in an emailed statement, “Last night, we lost one of our fearless, uniformed officers in the line of duty”.
Police in this northwest Louisiana city say an officer shot while on duty Wednesday night has died, and a manhunt for a suspect is underway.
Responding officers were intent on capture and clearly anguished.
A team is now at a home near the 3400 block of Judson Street, but it’s not clear if it’s response to a gunman inside the home.
The officer was taken to University Health in Shreveport with “critical injuries”. Hines says an armed man was apparently inside the residence, threatening to harm people.
Shreveport officers, assisted by state police, were using drones and helicopters to search for the shooter, who fled the scene after opening fire on the officer, the Shreveport Times reported.
Choppers also were being used in the manhunt. Please keep this officer’s family in your prayers tonight as well as our local law enforcement.
Shreveport Chief Willie Shaw said the department will host a press conference Thursday. When the officer arrived and approached the suspect, he was shot. Check back for more details.
