Metro police have confirmed an “active shooter” at an Antioch movie theater Wednesday afternoon.
Police said they responded to a shots fired call at the Carmike Hickory 8 theater at about 1:15 p.m. Wednesday. He was later killed trying to escape through the back door.
Aaron said Montano also had a history of mental illness and was committed for mental health care a total of four times, in 2004 and 2007.
“This individual has had significant psychiatric or psychological issues”, he said.
“The gun is a very realistic looking gun that strongly resembles a semiautomatic pistol”, he said. “Although it looks like a real firearm, it is an airsoft pistol”.
The Antioch incident is the latest in a series of violent attacks at U.S. movie theaters in recent years, including a deadly assault on a Lafayette, Louisiana, theater during a screening of “Trainwreck” on July 23.
Both shootings are reminiscent of the 2012 “Batman” massacre, when gunman James Holmes opened fire during a showing of “The Dark Knight Rises” in Colorado, killing 12 and harming 70 more.
One of those three also received a bruise on the arm from a hatchet the suspect was carrying.
“This could have been a lot worse”, he said.
“And I might additionally wish to thank all of the residents who gathered round us, helped my daughter once we have been pepper sprayed”.
Montano stopped at a dollar store and bought a mango drink before buying a ticket to the movie and entering the theater, police said.
None of the victims were taken to hospital.
Montano was reported missing to Murfreesboro police by his mother on Sunday.

Earlier, police had described him as a 51-year-old local man. He did have identification on him, Anderson said, but authorities want to check fingerprints to confirm his identity.
One officer entered the cinema and encountered the man, who opened fire.
The suspected shooter at an Antioch movie theater is dead, according to Metro police.

Mattie Sanchez works on the Dash retailer close to the theater.
