Hillary Clinton to make campaign stop in Utah
As Republican presidential hopefuls prepare to face off Thursday in the first debates of 2016 campaigns, Bloomberg Politics managing editor John Heilemann joins “CBS This Morning” to discuss the revelation that Bill Clinton might have been instrumental in encouraging Donald Trump to run!
According to a recent report in the Washington Times, Bill Clinton and Donald Trump had a cozy little chat over the telephone sometime toward the end of May (meaning just two months ago).
Trump says he would search to finish such practices if elected and notes that due to his personal private wealth he does not have to depend on wealthy donors to fund his marketing campaign. The sources additionally stated Trump’s presidential marketing campaign was not mentioned.
Trump struck a chord all right, one that put him in the lead among the other Republican hopefuls to the surprise of everyone save perhaps Bill Clinton. Associates to both Clinton and Trump have confirmed the call occurred in late May, though no specific date was given, according to the Post.
If that were indeed the case, it’s worked spectacularly well so far, with Trump’s controversial pronouncements about immigrants being rapists and criminals earning a surprising amount of support among GOP primary voters. Trump had donated generously to the foundation. But then Donald Trump rode that escalator down to the podium and made his 2016 announcement the very next day, making Bush’s media momentum positively plummet. “And I love playing golf with him“. During the call, the former president-and spouse of the likely democratic nominee-stopped short of outright pushing him to run for president. Since Trump entered the presidential race, however, he and Hillary Clinton have increasingly traded barbs. A report which will feed the paranoia of establishment Republicans that Trump has a hidden agency?
But now the Republicans had a frontrunner whom Trump considered to be perfection itself.
While the Clintons do not receive direct compensation from the Bill, Hillary, and Chelsea Clinton Foundation, they do benefit from travel, and many of their longtime aides have served on its payroll.
