Toronto nightclub shooting leaves 2 dead, 3 wounded
Two people are dead and three are injured after a shooting broke out at a Toronto nightclub during an after-party for Drake’s popular OVO Fest, the Toronto Star reports.
It was a “well-run event with lots of police officers around the area”, said police Supt.
Officers said they may still be other crime scenes in separate locations and the investigation was ongoing. “He is about 5’10” between 24 and 28 years old, and was wearing a yellow and burgundy plaid button-up shirt. One man in his twenties or thirties died from a gunshot on the club’s outdoor space.
One witness told the AP that he was walking with his daughter to his auto when he saw the two victims talking to a woman “about her body”.
Two people were killed during a screening of her movie, Trainwreck, in Louisiana in July.
Gunfire erupted inside the club at around 3:30 a.m., and the shooting continued outside on Dufferin Street as the panicked crowd spilled out of the club at Exhibition Place and onto nearby streets. The Toronto Police Service is asking for the public’s assistance in providing any information possible.
Toronto police superintendent Frank Bergen said the deceased included a woman and a man in their 20s and 30s.
“We’re satisfied at this point that the organization involved was doing their best and this did occur at 3:30 this morning as things were shutting down for the evening”. Police have closed all roads surrounding the area.
In a statement released hours after the shooting, Muzik nightclub owner Zlatko Starkovski said 73 professionally trained security guards were on duty during the event. “We are fully co-operating with Toronto Police and have full confidence they will get to the bottom of this horrific incident and bring these people to justice”.
