Audi A3 e-tron Priced from $38795
That drought is about to come to an end, as we are set to receive the A3 Sportback e-tron later this year.
Audi is, unsurprisingly, pitching it above a Prius or a Volt, however, with the A3 e-tron starting out at $37,900 before federal tax credits.
Even with a bit of delay, this A3 will still be the first Audi plug-in model offered in the U.S., beating the 2017 Q7 e-tron plug-in hybrid SUV and the all-electric R8 e-tron to the punch.
The 2016 A3 Sportback e-tron features a 1.4 liter TFSI engine with a six-speed S tronic transmission.
Upgrading to the A3 e-tron in Premium Plus trim bumps the price to $42,925, including shipping, before topping out at $47,725 for the Prestige trim package. Audi is awaiting final certification results from the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency, and the company plans to release those figures when they’re available.
Total system output is estimated at 204 horsepower and 258 pound-feet of torque-unchanged from the rating for European models. A lithium-ion battery pack can be charged to full capacity in 2 hours and 15 minutes with a 240-volt charger, while recharging with a standard 120-volt outlet takes 8 hours.
Electric-only range and fuel economy data weren’t released. It comes with HID headlights, LED taillights, LED interior lighting, automatic dual-climate control, a leather-wrapped steering wheel, Audi Advanced Key, a rearview camera, Audi pre-sense basic, Audi drive select, a 7-inch MMI screen, and more.
The carmaker will coordinate the installation of home charging stations through Bosch Automotive Service Solutions, if buyers choose, as well as separate solar-power installations from SunPower.
Pricing on the A3 e-tron also undercuts the 2015 BMW i3 plug-in hybrid’s $43,350 sticker price by more than $4,500.
An available smartphone app allows customers to check their vehicle’s charge status, program when the auto will charge – like in the evening when energy is usually cheapest – and other functions.
