Two Dead After Toronto Nightclub Shooting
As the Toronto Star reports, there was a shooting death at the same nightclub in February of 2013 when a 19-year-old amateur boxer was shot dead outside Muzik.
Three people were hospitalized with various injuries and one female has been treated and released. “We do believe that there could be other victims”, police Superintendent Frank Bergen told media.
Two more men and a second woman are also in hospital following the shooting at the OVO Fest after-party hosted by rapper Drake.
The rapper was hosting the event, described as the “official OVO Fest after-party with music by Charlie B“.
Police suspect there could be more victims and have appealed for any witnesses to contact them though officers have yet to make any arrests. There are three different crime scenes as part of the incident, but whether shootings occurred at each isn’t clear. Fatalities were suffered by a man and a woman believed to be in their 20s and 30s.
A makeup artist who worked at the Yorkdale Shopping Centre was one of the two people who were killed in a series of brazen shootings in and around Muzik nightclub early Tuesday morning.
The shooting took place at approximately 3.30am local time when the nightclub was shutting down.
“We did provide extra security for this venue, not just because of the incident last year – it’s just a large venue”, said Deputy Chief Peter Sloly, CBC News reported. Sloly said police fired no shots.
It was not clear if Drake was present during the shooting. Specially-trained officers had also been present at the start of the party, conducting body searches and using metal detectors on all patrons entering the nightclub. “A well-run event with lots of police officers in and around the area, culminating on a large evening event that occurred over at the OVO Festival“.
