Space Station soars over Houston
NASA’s springboard for discovery, innovation and deep space exploration has a new chief.
In the middle of the lunar beauty shot, the worldwide Space Station can be seen in silhouette, resembling a small letter “z” etched on the face of the moon.
Chichester-born astronaut Tim Peake is scheduled to go to the ISS in December and has previously spoken to the Observer of his excitement at boarding the world-famous space station. “As program manager, Kirk will work directly with worldwide partners to ensure safe and reliable operation of the orbiting laboratory, and foster continued scientific research that benefits humanity and helps prepare the agency for its journey to Mars”.

NASA has recognized Shireman with the agency’s Exceptional Achievement Medal, Silver Snoopy award in 1990 and Presidential Rank Award in 2010.
The global Space Station has been flying over Houston this week, putting on a show during the early morning and evening hours.

The ISS is very dwarf (357 feet across) as compared to the moon’s diameter (2,159 miles) and is said to be only 258 miles above the surface of the Earth whereas moon is 238,000 miles away. The global Space Station is the largest human-built object in space and can rival Venus in brightness in the night sky, but only if you know when and where to look.
