Vandals attack Florida vacation home of dentist who killed Cecil
The holiday home of the US dentist who killed Zimbabwean favourite Cecil the Lion has been vandalised.
Zimbabwean authorities have launched a crackdown on illegal hunting since, though some have argued that hunting plays a key role in conservation and provides essential revenue and jobs.
Hunting is “an integral part of our country and it’s got to continue and if we do not use wildlife sustainably, there will be no wildlife”, he added. The fury over Cecil’s killing demonstrates that we still value what is wild and unfarmed.
The Animal Legal Defense Fund says it filed a complaint Wednesday alleging that Palmer brought disrepute to Minnesota’s dental profession and should have his license revoked.
It should also be noted that Robert Mugabe, the corrupt dictator ruling Zimbabwe, slaughtered and ate a baby elephant for his birthday feast-and received a gift of a stuffed lion only a few months ago.
The killing in July has caused outrage around the world, with the furore forcing Mr Palmer into hiding.
People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals protesters hold pictures of Cecil the Lion as they stand in front of the Department of Interior building to protest against the importing of wild game killed as trophies August 5 in Washington, DC.
On Wednesday, the private investigator posted no trespassing signs at the home to keep people off the property.
Meanwhile, Safari Club global, an worldwide hunting organization that Palmer belonged to, said it also supported a probe and that it had revoked his membership. The family wanted to paint the garage door, but officials told them it would interfere with their investigation.
Cecil has been described as the “star attraction” at Hwange National Park in Zimbabwe and was recognisable thanks to his distinctive black mane. The case is controversial because Cecil, a dominant animal that led a pride and was said to be a tourist draw in Hwange National Park, was allegedly lured from the park with bait, shot by Palmer with a bow and arrow, and wounded.
A second US doctor accused of killing a lion in an illegal hunt in Zimbabwe in April said that he had complied with all rules and regulations, filled out all the necessary paperwork and obtained the correct permits.
Rocker Ozzy Osborne’s wife, Sharon, joined the online attack.
“Locally, I think everybody knows”. He is a killer.
Bronkhurst said he was unaware of the lion’s protected status.
“We never would have sacrificed another animal to make a point that someone was wrong”, she said.
However, Zimbabwe’s wildlife minister has announced that the country will seek to extradite Palmer for trial.
