Kelly says RB Bryant won’t play for Notre Dame in 2015
Bryant remains on scholarship and will practice with the team, but he is not on the 105-man roster. Bryant, who’s from Delray Seashore, was second on the workforce in dashing final season with 289 yards on 54 carries, a 5.four yards per carry common that led the Irish. He is a former four-star recruit by 247sports and was viewed as the 45th best prospect overall in the 2013 class and the sixth best running back in the country. “Fairly merely, Greg didn’t meet these expectations”.
Bryant’s father, also named Greg Bryant, told Scout.com that his son was ruled academically ineligible.
“There are certain expectations within our program that must be met on a daily basis”, Notre Dame coach Brian Kelly said in a statement released on Tuesday.
When the first fall practices kick off Friday, Notre Dame will be down to two veteran options at running back in junior Tarean Folston and senior C.J. Prosise, who played a larger role in the Irish backfield in the spring after spending the previous two years as a receiver. As our own JJ Stankevitz explained at the time of the initial report, though, the loss Bryant does not necessarily serve as a death knell for that facet of the offense, although that was in the context of a four-game suspension and not a season-long loss.
In other roster moves, Notre Dame announced linebacker Michael Deeb and junior tight end Mike Heuerman are medically disqualified.
Bryant played in 12 games last season.
The RailCats return home to start a three-game series against the Winnipeg Goldeyes at 7:10 p.m. Wednesday.
