FOX Confirms ‘Prison Break’ Event Series, Wentworth Miller and Dominic Purcell
Fox is finally confirming what TVLine reported in early June: Prison Break is returning to Fox in 2016 as a 10-episode event series.
Original stars Wentworth Miller and Dominic Purcell will reprise their roles for a 10-episode “limited series” steered by the show’s creator Paul Scheuring. “It’ll start after where we left the Scofields in the final season”.
“It’s going to bring back both brothers, [played by] Wentworth Miller and Dominic Purcell”, Newman revealed to the members of the press in attendance at Fox’s Television Critics Association summer press panel on Thursday.
“Some of the iconic characters from that show will be back”, Gary explained. Prison Break creator Paul Scheuring is now writing the first script and show bible.
Questioned how a resurrection series may cope with the truth that among Prison Break primary figures died at the conclusion of the initial sequence, Walden responded: “What [John] pitched to us was an extremely reasonable and plausible – within the world of Prison-Break – clarification for why our figures are living but still getting around the planet”. “He’s not going to disregard it. You will get a satisfying answer to why these characters are still alive”. I wouldn’t want to give away too much of what Paul has planned but he had a very detailed, incredible story for why these characters become relevant again and why to bring them back.
I would describe it as a bit of a sequel.
So don’t worry, Michael fans, we now know he survived (despite all indications to the contrary) and he’ll be back, although exactly how that’s going to play out is yet to be known.
Walden touted the show’s performance on Netflix as part of the impetus for its return, calling it one of the most successful Fox shows on streaming platform.
