Vandy Football criticized for ‘We don’t need your permission’ tweet

The tweet was capped off with an image (seen with this story) which reads, “We don’t need your permission!”

In case some of you may have forgotten, Vanderbilt was recently the subject of a very highly-publicized rape investigation involving members of the football team. All four former players are charged with five counts of aggravated rape and two counts of aggravated sexual battery.

This tweet was posted at 10:07 a.m Thursday.

Two of the former players, Cory Batey and Brandon Vandenburg, were found guilty in January after jurors saw gruesome photos and video the players themselves took of the attack.

The case against four former Vanderbilt football players who were accused of raping an unconscious female student in June 2013 is ongoing, following a mistrial ruling earlier this summer.

As image of head coach Derek Mason’s signature appeared under the wording. They are now out on bond and could have a second trial in November.

At a hearing, the juror said he never considered himself a victim, and that his work his previous experiences had no bearing on the outcome of the verdict against Vandenbury and Batey.

The tweet was later deleted and an apology was issued saying, “We apologize for today’s tweet”.

Vanderbilt Athletics declined to comment.
