Suspect arrested in connection with Swampscott mom death
Six months after her remains were found on a Swampscott beach, an arrest has been made in the killing of Jaimee Mendez, the mother of a young son.
According to the Hampton Police Division, Fleury was living at a home on Rexford Drive in the Denbigh area of Newport News.
Fleury admitted to police that he spent time with Mendez on the night of her disappearance, but denied any knowledge of what had happened to her.
When Jaimee Mendez disappeared last November, the last person believed to have seen her alive, Jason Fleury, said he had nothing to do with it.
Thirty-seven-year-old Jason Fleury was arrested Tuesday afternoon in Hampton, Virginia, as a fugitive from justice on charges in the murder of 25-year-old Jaimee Mendez of Swampscott, last seen alive early November 2014. He will be held overnight at the Hampton, Virginia Police Headquarters.
If Fleury waives extradition, he will be transported to Massachusetts where he will be arraigned on a murder charge in Salem Superior Court. If he does not waive extradition, the Essex County District Attorney will seek a governor’s warrant to bring him back to the state to face the murder charge.
Fleury, who is a registered sex offender, told the Lynn Item that he had been questioned in the case. However, WAVY.com also found an address listed in Gloucester County for Fleury.
According to the newspaper article in The Daily Item of Lynn, Fleury said he knew Mendez through connections they had with a heroin dealer.
