IS Egypt affiliate threatens to kill Croatian hostage in 48 hours
Salopek, who works for Ardiseis Egypt, a unit of French firm CGG, which specializes in oil and gas geology, said he was abducted by the Daesh-linked militants on July 22.
In the video, the hostage, identified as Tomislav Salopek, said he works in Cairo for the France-based geophysical company CGG, adding that he had been kidnapped two weeks ago by the “Soldiers of the Sinai wilaya”. Zagreb said it was doing all it could to resolve the situation.
Egypt, a majority Muslim country, now holds thousands of Islamists and suspected supporters of the outlawed Muslim Brotherhood group in prison following the 2013 military overthrow of Islamist President Mohammed Morsi. “Ardiseis Egypt acknowledges that he is the hostage appearing on the video released today by the Sinai Province of Islamic State”, the company said in a statement.
Croatia’s Foreign Ministry late last month that one of its nationals with the same initials had been kidnapped in Cairo.
