Approval rating of Brazil’s Rousseff at 8 pct
Almost seven out of ten Brazilians say Rousseff is to blame for a corruption scandal surrounding state-owned oil company Petrobras and over 60 percent favor her impeachment, according to the latest MDA poll conducted in July 12-16.
The rating that now stands at 71 percent is even more dismal than that of ex-president Fernando Collor, which has become somewhat of a benchmark figure; following his impeachment for corruption in 1992 after being involved with an influence peddling scheme.
While a majority of Brazilians still expect to see the leftist leader serve out her term, Datafolha said 38 percent now see her being impeached, up from 29 percent in April.
Rousseff presided at a ceremony celebrating the “success” of the “More Doctors” program, via which today some 14,500 foreign health professionals, of whom nearly 11,500 are Cubans – whom she highly praised – work in Brazil. He was forced to resign after less than two years in office, in an attempt to avoid impeachment proceedings by the Senate, also on corruption charges. Right before he stepped down he had an approval rating of nine percent and disapproval of 68 percent.
SÃO PAULO-Brazilian President Dilma Rousseff’s approval rating has slumped into single digits, hitting a record low as the country’s economy struggles and amid a growing corruption scandal.
According to the results of a poll released on Thursday by the Datafolha… The scandal has undermined her popularity and turned allies against her. Rousseff is not under investigation and has said all those found guilty must be punished.
In a sign that Rousseff is losing support in her governing coalition, the lower house of Congress overwhelmingly passed a bill on Wednesday to raise the wages of some public employees, a blow to her efforts close a gaping fiscal gap.
A rally calling for her resignation is scheduled for August 16.
Datafolha interviewed 3,358 people between August 4 and 5. The poll’s margin of error is two percentage points.
