Florida’s 10-day back to school sales tax holiday starting
The three-day event is popular among South Carolina consumers because it provides a tax break as they make necessary purchases for school or college. The Tax Free Weekend also qualifies Hurricane and Emergency Preparedness Items, since hurricane season (June 1 – November. 30) overlaps the time that students return to school.
To get the holiday exemption, customers can shop in stores and online or through catalogs that normally charge Ohio sales tax, he said.
This year, shoppers will save an estimated $87 million in state and local sales taxes during the sales tax holiday.
“Consumers are so mobile these days that, you know, if one state does a sales-tax holiday, well, they’re just going to go ahead and drive there and take advantage of that”, she said.
So that means you could put 200 different school supply items in your cart, and as long as each individual item is under $20 (or $75 for clothes), no sales tax will be charged.

The only items not included in the sales tax holiday include accessories, items used in a trade or business, protective wear, sewing materials, and very few limited items. The Florida Department of Revenue has published a nonexhaustive list of exempt clothing.
