Penn State University Unveils New Logo
Carr elected to go to Happy Valley, deciding on the Nittany Lions over Maryland and several other top programs.
According to The Daily Collegian, Penn State decided to “refresh” its look for the first time since the 1980s because the old logo, depicting a lion shrine with the year “1855” underneath it, did not reproduce well on the web, social media and video.
(State College) – Penn State University has adopted a new shield logo for official use. The same firm responsible for refreshing brands like AT&T, Cigna, Cisco, and the World Wildlife Fund.
For this Penn State fan, the Miami sun-and a prestigious game-more than made up for a seemingly lackluster opponent.
The council looked at hundreds of different possibilities ranging from the fonts, to the shield shape, and the placement and color of the lion.
“He didn’t try to recruit me, or try to shade me one way”, Carr said.
We understand not everyone will agree on a new design, however, it is unacceptable that the University spent $128,000 while never asking the public opinions of the two most important groups-the students and alumni.
“I am excited to see us moving forward with an updated visual identity that connects our rich tradition with a bright future”, said Penn State President Eric Barron.
It will be a couple of years before the old shield logo is completely phased out. Colleges and campuses will cycle-in new brochures and materials instead of throwing away what they have now. Part of his role also includes finding new business and revenue opportunities, an area where he excelled in his time at Bradley, which signed an apparel deal with Adidas, the university’s first all-sports apparel deal, and also secured large corporate sponsorships.
Lokman is no stranger to undertake projects like this.
“The updated mark comes at a critical time as we establish and expand the identity of Penn State Health across Pennsylvania”, said Dr. A. Craig Hillemeier, dean of Penn State College of Medicine, CEO of Penn State Health, and Penn State’s senior vice president for health affairs.
The refresh comes in time to launch the new Penn State Health brand, which represents the University’s expanding health and medicine enterprise throughout Central Pennsylvania and beyond.
Establishing a pipeline to Philadelphia has been hard for previous Penn State coaches for many reasons. And while it might not be everyone’s cup of tea, it certainly could be worse.
