Strong wants clear-cut No. 1 QB for opener
The battle for the starting quarterback job at Texas will continue into the beginning of the season.
Both coach Charlie Strong and quarterbacks coach Shawn Watson said the Longhorns would use both junior Tyrone Swoopes and redshirt freshman Jerrod Heard to open the season against Notre Dame.
Now, this doesn’t mean one of the two won’t be named starter by then.

It’s also possible that the season opener against Notre Dame could be the deciding factor on which one starts from that point on.
Texas football coach Charlie Strong speaks during a news conference at the NCAA college football team’s media day Thursday, August 6, 2015, in Austin, Texas. Personally I think it could be a mixture of all three options. We were not impressed with Swoopes’ play last season. Swoopes completed 58% of his passes, throwing 13 touchdowns and 11 interceptions. Heard won two state high school championships running a spread offense and Texas would love to duplicate the success TCU had with a similar change last season.
