Lion-Killing Dentist Hires Guards After Florida Mansion Vandalized
The world, or at least the World of the Internets, is furious with the Minnesota dentist who stupidly killed Cecil the Lion.
The digital backlash was so immediate and intense that it forced the dentist into hiding (apparently due to death threats) and resulted in the closing of his dental practice. And we are still killing heaps and heaps of lions every year, many of them in far more grotesque ways and with more far-reaching ecological impacts than what we did Cecil. Palmer has said he relied on professional guides to ensure his hunt was legal.
Zalisko believes the vandalism was the work of either “kids or animal activists”. “The cat was lured out of his protected habitat and shot – first with an arrow, then with a gun“. The lion’s body was found on the park’s outskirts, skinned and headless, along with the tracking collar.
Although I think what you did was wrong, I want to thank you for sparking a conversation for change, which will eventually help save the lives of numerous lions, tigers, cheetahs, zebras and other big-game animals.
Photos of dead wild animals with hunters posing over them holding rifles fill the page dedicated to a small business called Bushman Safaris Zimbabwe. Zimbabwean politicians are accusing the United States of staging Cecil’s killing as a “ploy” to make our country look bad. Overnight on Monday, his home was vandalized, according to The Orlando Sentinel.
The American, Dr. Jan Seski of Murrysville, Pennsylvania, said in a statement issued through his lawyer that the hunt was lawful and that he had the necessary permits required by Zimbabwean authorities.
The Association for the Protection of Fur-Bearing Animals, a group from B.C., said Wednesday Air Canada should take its ban a step further and prohibit the transport of big game trophies from Canadian hunts. Even so, Zimbabwe officials have said they are seeking to have Palmer extradited to face formal charges there.
Muchinguri, a 91-year-old veteran from President Robert Mugabe’s ruling ZANU-PF party, described Cecil – a black-maned lion well-known to foreign tourists in the Hwange National Park – as an “iconic attraction”.
On Saturday, a lion researcher cast doubt on a report of the shooting death of a male lion who was a companion of Cecil.
