DNR confirms 2 cougar sightings in Langlade County in far northern Wisconsin
The Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources has confirmed two cougar sightings in Langlade County. They were both taken July 9 at locations about six miles apart.
For more information, visit dnr.wi.gov and search keyword “cougar”. Cougars are protected, so you can not hunt them. Anyone approached by a cougar is encourage to make noise and throw rocks or sticks to scare it away.
“Even in Milwaukee there was a lion out there, and now knowing that there’s cougars out here, it does bring excitement”, said Alex Khokhari, a visitor from Chicago.
Whether the cougar sightings continue or not, it’s still quite a moment for landowners to catch on camera. “It’s not something that everyone is going to see on their property”.
Genetic evidence suggests cougars known to have entered Wisconsin are male cougars dispersing from a breeding population in the Western United States. He says there hasn’t been a report of a person injured by a cougar in Wisconsin.
