Louisiana officer shot, killed; manhunt ongoing
He said the officer, Thomas LaValley, replied to a wary man or woman call up Wednesday at night in Shreveport, a town of around 200,000 people in general positioned about 200 a good distance south east of Dallas.
The suspect, Grover Cannon, is now wanted on a charge of first-degree murder in Wednesday’s killing of Shreveport police Officer Thomas LaValley, Shaw said.
“No matter what rock he crawls under, we will find him”, Shaw told reporters.
Chief Shaw announced in a press conference Thursday morning that they would not rest until Cannon was brought to justice. Details of the previous case weren’t immediately available.
According to the Shreveport Times, the officer was called to a home in the Queensborough neighborhood of the city at about 9:14 p.m.to investigate a suspicious person.
Goodin says Shreveport police, Caddo Parish deputies, together with DeSoto Parish deputies and the state police are looking for the shooter.
LaValley worked in the Shreveport Police Department for four years after graduating at the top of his training class, Shaw said. “Our request is that everyone pray for the family of the officer involved”, Hines added. “He died protecting us”. “Our hearts are saddened”, Mayor Ollie Tyler said in a statement.
Officer LaValley had been with the police department since February 2011.
Many today are remembering how special Thomas LaValley was, and the lives he touched.
The gunman, identified as Grover D. Cannon, is now being sought by authorities and is also wanted in connection with a shooting that occurred in July.
“I just want my son to turn himself in”, said Ramona Cannon.
Visitation will follow until 9:00 p.m.
This is a developing story.
