Blue Bell Plant Making Ice Cream Again
The privately held company stopped production at its Alabama; Brenham, Texas; and Broken Arrow, Oklahoma plants after issuing a national recall in April because of concerns about listeria.
SAN ANTONIO State officers gave the thumbs up on Wednesday for troubled Texas firm Blue Bell to resume making ice cream in its Alabama plant after a shut-down due to Listeria instances linked to its merchandise that led to a recall and public well being worries.
Paul Kruse, Blue Bell Creameries CEO and president, called the downsizing an “agonizing decision”. The Brenham-based company announced on its Facebook page on August. 5: “We’re busy at our Sylacauga, Ala., facility crankin’ out ice cream and building inventory”.
Listeria is a type of bacteria that can cause serious illness, particularly in older adults, pregnant women and those with weakened immune systems. Alabama health officials said they have placed no restrictions on the sale of Blue Bell products. “Stay tuned in the coming weeks for the details of our return!” Blue Bell’s Broken Arrow, Okla., and Brenham facilities remain closed, and the company has not disclosed when ice cream sales may resume. Under the terms, the Bass family would get a one-third stake in the company.
