GOP Debate: Candidates prep for spotlight
There will be ten Republican presidential candidates on the stage for first pre-primary GOP debate, but for the millions of viewers expected to tune into the two-hour rhetorical cage match on Fox News, it’s all about Donald Trump. His startling declaration left his onstage rivals scrambling to compete for attention the rest of the night. Lindsey Graham, former New York governor George Pataki and one-time Virginia governor Jim Gilmore-will debate, though it’s not clear who will be watching.
But Carly Fiorina, a former business executive and the only woman in the Republican field, acknowledged Trump had tapped into a broad sense of frustration with Washington.
The son and brother of former presidents, he also faces questions about whether his nomination would mark a return to the past.

“Mr. Trump’s language is divisive”, Bush said. Many said, that 15 months is a long time in the political landscape.

But Perry doesn’t even need to make a mistake (or, say, get convicted on the charges for which he’s now under indictment) to have a worst-case scenario happen. Mr. Sanders said that he was “disappointed, but not surprised” by the debate schedule and said that it was “imperative that we have as many debates as possible – certainly more than six”.
Now that the big day has arrived, he’s taking it easy – going to the gym, attending Mass with his wife, and doing some last-minute emailing with friends and advisors.
“He’s already hedging his bets because he’s used to buying politicians”, Paul said.
“This election better be about the future, not the past”, he said.

A CBS poll this week showed more than 7 in 10 Republican voters are confident in Trump’s economic decisions, well above any other Republican candidate. The top 10, as determined by national polls, will debate at 9 p.m. The seven who didn’t make the final cut will appear onstage during a forum at 5 p.m.

“Trump can go in there and feel presidential and the average American can say: ‘you know, behind the strong language and the vivid words, there’s a guy that can be in the Oval Office.’ He comes out of there enormously strengthened”.
