Ryan Phillippe to Star in ‘Shooter’ Pilot for USA!
Besides Shooter, USA Network recently snapped up additional pilots, including Brooklyn Animal Control, Poor Richard’s Almanack, Falling Water and Paradise Pictures.
Former Secrets and Lies star Ryan Phillippe has picked his next TV project: EW has learned the actor will star in Shooter, a just-greenlit USA pilot where Phillippe will star as a former Marine sniper.
With 40-year-old Phillippe signing on, USA has given a formal pilot order to the project from Paramount TV and Universal Cable Productions.
The hour-long series is based on Stephen Hunter’s best-selling Bob Lee Swagger novel, Point of Impact, and the 2007 Paramount film starring Mark Wahlberg. Hes a former Marine sniper now living a life off the grid who gets talked into coming back for one last job because someone is planning to kill the President of the United States. His credits include Damages and Catch Hell, his directorial debut that he also co-wrote, produced and starred in. Ballers helmer Simon Cellan Jones is attached to direct the pilot.
Nearly immediately after Secrets and Lies was renewed for Season 2, Phillippe stated that he would not be returning to the anthology series (though his co-star Juliette Lewis is).
“Shooter is an action series whose central elements are the ingenuity and courage of a U.S. veteran and the military training and background that sustain him as he fights a sophisticated conspiracy”.
Wahlberg says, “I love the character of Bob Lee Swagger and we are thrilled to have Ryan on board for the show”.
