Mazda concept ‘will raise the bar’
The Mazda Koeru will be on display at this year’s Frankfurt Motor Show, alongside the new MX-5 and other vehicles from the Mazda range, between 15th and 27th September. This is because Mazda is hopeful that the vehicle it previews will surpass existing standards and raise the bar for performance, efficiency and overall value, though it also hints that the production version of the Koeru may not be your standard crossover.
Above: the Minagi concept became the CX-5 we know today.
In Mazda’s own words, the company aimed to “impart the Koeru with the power and vitality of a wild animal while maintaining a sense of refined dignity”.
Mazda are being very tight-lipped about the Koeru, apart from to say it gets SKYACTIV powertrains, is a crossover and that its name means “exceed” or “go beyond” in Japanese.
Looking at the sketch provided by Mazda’s PR machinery, it’s easy to recognize the familiar grill flanked by the stretched thin headlights continued by flowing shapes.
Dubbed the Koeru, the concept showcases the latest embodiment of the Mazda brand’s muscular Kodo design language.
We expect mode details to emerge as the Frankfurt Motor Show opening date approaches. For what it’s worth, the CX-5, the Mazda6 and the Mazda2 were all previewed by close-to-production concepts like the Koeru.
