IOS WhatsApp users can backup Video Chat and share locations
Download or update WhatsApp for iOS from the App Store. WhatsApp engineers have rolled out an update that lets the users define custom notifications per chat and even mute the noisy groups. The users can reduce their data usage when WhatsApp is used for making calls in settings > chats and calls.
If you want to share contacts, you can now do so from the Contacts app, and share locations in Apple Maps directly to people in WhatsApp. While the application has been optimized for iPhone 5, iPhone 6, and iPhone 6 Plus, is is compatible with any other iPhone device that supports iOS 6.0 or later.
The WhatsApp app listing notes that the update brings better support for VoiceOver, alongside introducing an improved design for cropping images and videos.
When users scroll through their chats, old messages will load automatically. The location messages on WhatsApp for iOS will now show a large map thumbnail for improved readability in the app.
“In addition, there is an option to use less data for voice calls which the users can find in the “Chats and calls” settings”.
All the above features are now available to iOS users, and we can expect them to be made available on Android as well.
The feature allow the app users to select options for vibration length, tones, popup notifications etc.
What WhatsApp was missing is hardly location sharing — it’s end-to-end encryption. Until they finally deliver on their promise, I’ll be using Threema. And soon enough all my contacts will use also Threema (so there won’t be any reason to switch back to WhatsApp).
