Police look into video of cop pulling gun on man filming him
In the most recent incident involving authorities, filming, and firearms, a new viral phone video from California depicts a weird situation where a local police officer unholsters his weapon at a man for no apparent reason.
The man shot cell phone video of the officer drawing his service revolver that will be central to the case.
The officer eventually left the scene.
The video was taken by Don McComas (aka Ryan Jones), of Rohnert Park, California, about 50 miles north of San Francisco.
The exchange goes on for a while with the officer asking McComas: Why are you doing this?’ to which McComas responds: ‘Why are you sitting here with your gun on me? The identity of the police officer in the video has not been released.
McComas repeats he did nothing wrong and tells the officer not to touch him.
Parked and seated behind the wheel, the officer seems to be taking a picture of McComas with his own cellphone after two minutes. “We understand the concerns that have been raised by our community and others and we want the public to know that your trust in law enforcement in our city is a top priority”. The officer did nothing but point at McComas and his home, McComas said.
McComas: “You take a picture and leave”.
McComas backed away from the officer, nervously yelling, “You guys have done enough to my family”. “I don’t really care”, he said as he walked back to his police cruiser.
McComas was not detained or arrested, and the officer drove off after the confrontation.
Rohnert Park Mayor Amy Ahanotu and City Manager Darrin Jenkins said in a statement that an internal review will be conducted to determine if the proper protocols were followed, the Los Angeles Times reports.
“[An officer] needs to have a reasonable suspicion that the person he’s talking to is engaged in some sort of criminal activity”, Lozada said. In the YouTube notes, McComas wrote that it all started when he was out in front of his house, hooking up his boat to his vehicle.
