Manhunt underway for suspect in shooting of Shreveport police officer
A Shreveport cop was shot and killed on Wednesday, August 5, and now a manhunt has been launched for the suspect of the deadly crime.
A search continues for Grover Cannon, 27, the suspect in the killing.
A suspect wanted in the shooting death of a Shreveport police officer was taken into custody after a round-the-clock manhunt, Louisiana State Police said Thursday. “If you know of his location, contact your local law enforcement immediately”, Shreveport officers stated.
Bossier City police and Louisiana State Police were assisting in the search for the gunman.
Police say the officer was responding to a report of a suspicious person inside a home, and the armed man apparently was inside the home, threatening to harm people.
Cannon was also wanted in association with a shooting that had happened last month.
A Shreveport police officer answering a Wednesday night call was gunned down.
Shreveport Police Chief Willie Shaw promissed that often police won’t refrain from looking till they apprehended the assumed firearm, known as Grover Cannon.
Police already had a warrant for Cannon’s arrest on a charge of second-degree murder, which carries an automatic life sentence; they now have one for first-degree murder, which carries a possible death penalty. Midnight came and police had made no arrest despite more than 70 units called to the scene, backed by helicopters and drones. The officer was taken to University Health for treatment with “critical injuries”, where he later died just after midnight. “Our request is that everyone pray for the family of the officer involved”, Hines added.
Police had not named their lost officer by 12:30 a.m., nor was the shooter captured.
“He was doing what he loved”, Shaw repeated.
Authorities earlier Thursday offered up to a $25,000 reward for information leading to Cannon, as well as a warning for those who might see him. Our hearts are saddened.
