Levi’s turf troubles cancel 49ers’ public practice
The condition of the turf at Levi’s Stadium has been a frequent issue since the 49ers moved into the building and nothing has changed this summer.
The Niners, under new coach Jim Tomsula, initially planned to hold their first eight training camp practices at Levi’s Stadium, but were forced to move operations next door after two practices and returned for a fan event practice Wednesday night.
Sunday’s practice was supposed to be open to the public but will now be closed because of logistical reasons. “After a radical inspection earlier at present, our grounds crew decided that the sector wouldn’t be prepared by Sunday”.
The 49ers have canceled a public practice that was expected to draw 20,000 to Levi’s Stadium because of concerns about the playing surface there.
“We prolong our honest apologies to these followers who have been scheduled to attend Sunday’s apply”, Jim Mercurio, vice chairman of stadium operations and common supervisor of Levi’s Stadium, stated in a press release. Therefore, the recommendation was made to relocate practice.
The 49ers recently opened training camp and already there are plenty of head-scratching questions. “We stay assured that our turf administration program will present a enjoying floor that meets the staff’s requirements, as we enter the 2015 NFL season”.
But, as it did in the first two practices, the sod gave way throughout the field, with large divots flying up when players planted their feet and cut.
The team last practiced at Levi’s on Wednesday night but similar problems occurred.
The issues continued, prompting the field to be replaced several times over the course of the season and at least twice before it hosted its first regular-season game. In this case, we’re talking about the first week of the regular season and the spot where the NFL plans to hold its showcase event. The team later said the practice was abbreviated because the defense had only four healthy inside linebackers, and coaches didn’t want to overburden that group.
As previously scheduled, Levi’s Stadium is set to install a new playing field following the Taylor Swift concert on August 15.
