Boston police seek truck after fatal bike accident
A bicyclist was fatally injured in a hit-and-run crash Friday morning near the intersection of Beacon Street and Massachusetts Avenue, on a popular Back Bay route for bicyclists, Boston police said.
The cyclist was hit by the rear wheel of a flatbed truck as it turned off Massachusetts Avenue onto Beacon Street around 7 a.m.
The woman was taken to Massachusetts General Hospital, where she died, according to WCVB.
Police are looking for the truck with a red sleeper cab and chrome grill. Francis said he ran out of the store and saw the young woman lying face down, and the bicycle lying nearby.
The bicyclist was hit by a large truck which did not stop, police said.
In an interview with The Boston Globe, Police Superintendent Bernard O’Rourke said, “We are checking everything we can”. Another employee, Chafik Hamadeh, said people inside the store heard a bang before being told about what had happened on the street. Multiple reports say the woman was in her 20s, but her name has not been released.
Zach Cloyd, 31, who lives next door to the scene, said he stopped biking home from work because this particular intersection is unsafe. They said it’s possible the driver was not aware of the collision.
