Dad Gets Cochlear Tattoo to Support Deaf Daughter
Alistair Campbell, from New Zealand, got the artwork done to show six-year-old daughter Charlotte that he supports her as she struggles with a condition that means she has profound hearing loss.
“She wouldn’t talk to anybody to pretty much a social butterfly”, she said. The little girl could not hear anything without an implant.
Before receiving her first implant at four, Anita said Charlotte was “quite introverted”, but now she is “the life of the party”.
“But the key thing is Charlotte does all the things hearing kids can do”, she said.
Many were impressed with Alistair’s dedication and support for his daughter.
“She now constantly touches mine and Adam’s tattoos then her own birthmark and giggles – I couldn’t be happier”.
“We have a close father-daughter bond, and I thought it would be quite fitting for me to do that”, the doting father said. “It would be like having just one speaker going on the stereo”. With a second implant, Charlotte’s hearing ability will surely improve. So he got a cochlear implant too. This dad had his daughter’s birthmark tattooed on him, while these parents had an insulin pump tattooed on their stomachs to lift their diabetic son’s spirits.
This probably cements Alistair as a strong Father of the Year candidate.
Mr Campbell also raises funds for children with hearing loss via the Hear For Kidz Trust Facebook page.
